Employee Spotlight: Helen Vickers

- What does a typical working day at LIO look like for you?
My role has three core elements. The first is the People side — supporting the team with all things HR, while also championing mental health and wellbeing across the organisation. The second part of my role is supporting our CEO, Todd, helping him operate as effectively as possible, and the third part of my role is dedicated to organising the events that sit at the heart of LIO. These include our full-team offsites, which bring the entire LIO team together three times a year for a day of updates, shared learning and team-building. They play an important role in maintaining connection across the company.
- What was it about LIO that appealed to you?
Prior to joining LIO, I worked for one of our investee companies where I heard regular updates about LIO and the progress they were making. I identified with the company’s mission in mental health, and when I saw the role advertised, I jumped at the opportunity to be a part of it. Being part of an organisation that actively supports mental health is meaningful and worthwhile.
- What do you enjoy most about your job and why?
I really enjoy the variety in my role and the autonomy I have in managing my day-to-day work. I work on a great mix of short and long term projects, across both operational delivery and more strategic objectives, which keeps things interesting. I also get satisfaction from supporting the team through the People function, helping to ensure they feel valued and providing guidance on our HR policies and procedures.
In this role, I have the opportunity to interact with most people across the organisation. We have a strong team culture and the collaboration is enjoyable.
- What has been your proudest achievement at LIO so far?
Receiving consistent positive feedback from the team after our full-team offsites is particularly rewarding, knowing that these events lift everyone and provide a day full of interesting content, positive interaction, great food and an evening together that helps the team stay connected.
- What’s a fun fact about you that your colleagues might not know?
I’m passionate about Germany and the German language and am fascinated by anything to do with East Germany.
